In a shocking turn of events, the Head of the Portuguese Intelligence, Leonardo Machado, has stepped down from his position. The news, although sudden, was not very surprising given that there was an unrest with the way the ex-head ran the bureau.
People still remember the attacks on Lisbon and Evora in the month of June, 2026. These attacks were the biggest failure of the bureau in its history. In addition, the steps taken in response to the attacks were deemed unsatisfactory by the people. With growing pressure on the government to take some sort of action, the resignation of Mr. Machado will sure calm some fractions of the people.
Still no news related to who will succeed Mr. Machado has come forward. For the time being, the deputy head, Mr. Anthony da Silva, will take charge and carry on the duties. A cabinet of ministers have been formed and 7 names have been shortlisted. The person with the majority of votes will be considered as the new head.
