March 15th marks a pivotal day in Hungarian history, commemorating the 1848 Revolution against Habsburg rule. Part of a wave of uprisings across Europe, the Hungarian revolution was driven by demands for national independence, political reform, and civil rights.
On this day, young intellectuals and revolutionaries, including the poet Sándor Petőfi, gathered in Budapest, reading the National Song and presenting the Twelve Points, which called for freedom of the press, an independent government, and equality before the law. The revolution quickly gained momentum, leading to the formation of Hungary’s first independent government under Lajos Batthyány.
Though initially successful, the movement faced strong resistance from the Austrian Empire, which later sought Russian help to suppress it. By 1849, the revolution was crushed, but its legacy remained, laying the foundation for future struggles toward Hungarian sovereignty.
Today, March 15th is a national holiday in Hungary, celebrated with speeches, ceremonies, and the wearing of the tricolor cockade—a symbol of national pride and resilience.
With this in mind, I offer a piece of ingame weapon for all who comment on this, representing the memory of the national revolution.
