In case you didn't know, NPC's are meant to be sortof pollution "neutral" in this game. How it functions is when an NPC works, it produces pollution just like a normal worker. However NPC's will try to buy supplies on the market, mostly food, and the pollution value of those items bought are removed from the game. Now this is all fine and well. The problem is the pollution reduction is global and split among all regions in the game, so it has minimal effect in the actual country the NPC worked in. And NPC's that work for slave salaries can't afford to buy items and thus doesn't contribute to reducing pollution.
The result is that countries that pay their NPC's a fair wage essentially pay for Slave holding nations pollution reduction. This is upsetting which is why we made a new list - the Freedom Index, which indicates how easy it is for players in any given country to be able to hire NPC's and give them a fair wage.
How the Freedom Rating is calculated is included at the bottom of this article. Only countries with 9 or more active citizens are added to the list right now. This one is from yesterday the 21st.
Generally countries higher up on this list will be paying countries lower on the list for their pollution reduciton. We think this is an ideological and fundamental difference that we do not want to tolerate. The Abolish Slavery movement has the aim of freeing NPC's of their slave salaries and provide them with a fair salary so the NPC's actually contribute to global pollution reduction.
We hope as many countries as possible will do their part in the goal of ending NPC Slavery!
We believe this is a just cause to go to war for. To start this off, in one weeks time an updated list will be made and Sweden will declare war on one of the countries in the bottom of this list with more than 10 citizens. The war will carry on for minimum 1 week and last until the target government agrees to open up their market.
To clarify one thing. The Abolish Slavery movement does not concern itself with how countries decide to distribute their wealth between their players. Communist style run countries where leaders decide who to pool all the countries resources into are just fine. We only care about available currency on markets and providing NPC's with a fair wage.
For those interested - Here is how the Freedom Rating is calculated: The values from this rating are 4 parameters added together. The first one is VAT, +0.1 points per VAT so max is 2.5. The second is amount of state currency offer on money market. Best score of 0 comes from having more than 10 gold value of currency per citizen, and having less gradually increases the score up to 2 points. Having no state currency at all increases it by 4. The third one is difference between state currency offer and current lowest market offer, giving +0.01 points per percent difference up to 3. The fourth one is minimum wage difference from 1 gold, so having less gradually increases up to 1 if no minimum wage at all, while having more gradually increases up to 3 if minimum wage equals to 4 gold. The worst score a country currently can have in this rating is 10.5. Perhaps some numbers in the formula may be tweaked eventually, but will start off like this. Some countries place relatively well on the list despite having 25% VAT, like Romania (+2.5, +0, +0.053, +0.5 = 3.053), because they have a lot of currency on their money market. Other countries with low VAT like Hungary place high because they have no state currency offer at all (+0.3, +4, +3, +1 = 8.3). The rating is just a combined estimation of how easy it is for citizens to be able to provide a fair salary to the NPCs.
