Opening

Welcome to The Ephymeral Times. To present yours truly penning this article, I am Ephy, current France's Ministry of Economy, and an entrepreneur currently specialized in the food industry. My mission statement is to provide decent quality food for everyone to enjoy. "Quantity is Quality!" -- But, more on that another time...

This newspaper will aim to relate current events and analysis in our world, in my limited capacity and willingness. Expect bias, expect inaccuracies, expect misinformation, expect silliness, expect oriented and promotional speech. You better be ready.

For this first article, I'll go with something a bit more heavy, and current: the wave of nuclear strikes on Germany amidst rising tensions.

The facts

On this evening of 29th November, Day 60, first at 1751 then around 2100, Germany was targeted by a total of four nuclear strikes.

It's kind of a first! Because so far the only similar event was Lithuania that ate a barrage of three strikes some days ago, so, it the largest strike to date.

The two regions targeted were Berlin and Dortmund.

EDIT: Our previous damage assessment was removed as it was invalid due to poor assessment of building conditions in the aftermath of the attack. Some buildings that were thought to have avoided damage collapsed later on. I'll still salute the sturdy engineering, most would have been gone right away

Why?

Okaaay so this is kinda big deal isn't it?

First, why target these two regions? Most likely, it's due to them housing two Level 5 Military Bases, and Germany recent start of construction of its own Nukes! As the Dortmund base was damaged, this cancels one of their two nuke projects, that were launched just last midnight.

Since one can assume these were the real target of these strikes, we conclude they had an accuracy of only 25%. Not very shiny, considering the weapons employed..

But, why would Germany start building nukes now, and why would others use them on Germany now? Simply because in now just over one day, the scheduled NAP (Non-Aggression Pact) involving major world parties ends.

This is the latest they could be built to be available for a follow-up conflict, and the soonest they could be targeted with confidence that the project was underway to scrap it. Tight window!

What now?

German Media already issued a response after the first wave of attacks, although very vague.
In this article they claim that nukes were launched by North Macedonia, and Portugal. I cannot confirm the former, but the state of nuke supplies in the world made it practically mandatory for at least one to be launched by Portugal, as it had almost half of them. Hard to pass by!

The German article mentions that world-wide tensions are rising due to the event, but I'd argue they have been for at least a week now. The French government has been target of posturing by the German government for a while now, and with Germany timely production of nuclear weapons - it is hard to believe they wouldn't seek a military conflict at the end of the NAP.

We'll probably know more in the next 24-48 hours, so stay tuned!

EDIT 2: Following this second update, it appears that a total of 7 nuclear strikes were carried out on Germany and both targeted military bases neutralized. It is suspected that the increasing amount of strikes was carried out due to the bases unexpectedly withstanding the first blasts. We might know more in official releases in the future!
