General Mukosi’s insights on LEADERSHIP.

Ever wondered what Leadership is? Is it having a title? Is it telling people what to do? Is it having the desire to take control over everything? What is it? Is leadership a skill one can learn?

If you have a title, there are two ways of looking at it, you may see it as a status or a responsibility, and there is a huge difference. If you are status driven you will lose yourself in the process because you are defined by your Status and your status will end up becoming your idol. If you see it as your responsibility you will do what is right and you will be managing that responsibility by accepting accountability for your actions and commitments, which is most likely what a leader does.

Leadership is a skill and it is something you can learn, through being a good listener, listening is a skill, think of it this way, imagine having boss who never listens to what you have to say, how would you feel? Agitated of course and left out. Being a leader does not necessarily mean you should tell people what to do however it could also mean listening to what they have to say and guiding them through helping them make good and ethical decisions.

Have you ever encountered with people who want to be in control of everything? I am sure you have? In this case People can see a true leader not through their words but through their actions. When you are leader you behave in an ethical manner and trust me you will gain respect from others, leadership is a lifetime responsibility for everyone you could be a parent, a teacher or whatsoever but it’s apart of our lives. So don’t be in control alone let others contribute their Ideas and solutions.

A true leader is someone who is not selfish but fair and objective, and being assertive is important for a leader because you need to stand firm with what is right and ethical, you must be considerate and respectful of others. When a Leader makes decisions they must also think of others.

when you have made the decision that you want to sharpen your leadership skills read leadership books and equip yourself, learn to listen in this way you will learn, learn to take negative feedback from others and use it to improve yourself, work on your weaknesses and use your strengths to motivate you.

As a leader you must have discipline and consistency do not be lazy be active and  have a daily routine, to help you be structured. There is no success without discipline and consistency. A leader must be trusted and in order to be trusted be loyal to your responsibility and see it as your purpose.

I hope my words have helped others who are willing to learn like me. You are all good leaders but we all have to try sharpen our leadership skills, remember leadership is not just having a title it is more than that.
