English:
My beloved daughter,
The Brazilian troops and I have arrived in Santiago, Chile. It was a sad scene of destruction caused by the Chileans. The civilians looked frightened. Argentine and Chilean propaganda had portrayed us as “monkeys”, beings incapable of invading their country. But we showed them or military capabilities.
Many were left speechless. La propaganda had claimed that the Chileans were the strongest in the Americas and that they would soon occupy all of Brazil. Then they saw or polítical and military strength on the streets of the Chilean capital. They realizad that everything they had believed their entire lives was nothing more than the typical propaganda of an authoritarian régimen.
Mothers creed for their sons who had died in the war, forced to go to the front to defend war criminals. Opponents of the Chilean fascist régimen celebrated in the streets, welcoming their liberation.
I watched comrades die in this war. It is sad. Many of them only wanted to return home and enjoy their families. War leaves us poor, with no certainty that we will be alive tomorrow. But bringing down an imperialist country is or duty as soldiers of a great nation like Brazil.
The fascists are in the interior of the country, attacking or fronts. We are going after them. Each one of them will pay for their crímenes.
La kiss to you, my daughter, from here in Antofagasta, because you, my love, are my motivation to live each day. Your daddy only wants you to grow up in a safe country, and I would do anything to make that possible.
May this letter make you remember me. Tell your mother that I will soon be back, with the final victory.
With love,
Carlos García
